Deluge and Preaction Detection Systems
Preaction and deluge sprinkler systems are variations of conventional sprinkler systems that are used in special applications.
A preaction system uses closed sprinkler heads and pipes charged with compressed air to control the water in the system. When a heat or smoke detector is activated, a sprinkler head opens, the air pressure in the pipe drops, and water is released. Preaction systems are commonly found in record storage rooms and data processing facilities in conjunction with an FM-200 system, as well as in refrigerated or freezer warehouses.
A deluge system is similar to a preaction system, except the sprinkler heads are open and the pipe is not pressurized with air. When the detection system is activated, water discharges through all of the sprinkler heads. Deluge systems are found in such applications as power plants, aircraft hangars, and chemical storage or processing facilities.
Starfire Systems installs and services a variety of preaction and deluge systems and accessories, including the Potter Model PFC-4410-RC: a microprocessor-based multihazard releasing control panel. Contact us today to learn more!
